In order for St. Thomas to serve the community, realize its mission, support current and future quality programs and be a viable inner–city Catholic school, the capacity to provide financial assistance to school families is of the utmost priority. The annual tuition of just over $4,000 is beyond the reach of the overwhelming majority of our school parents. On average, 90% of our families receive need-based financial assistance.
Offering a “hand” to families in poverty is not a new idea. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton said it best when she founded her academy in Maryland 200 years ago, “…our school is devoted to the education of poor children in the Catholic faith.” We share and embrace the same ideals. In spite of the obstacles we face, St. Thomas is a beacon of hope and opportunity. It is our calling and duty to make a quality Catholic education affordable and accessible to more families and anyone who wants it, regardless of economic status.
In order for us to continue our success, we will need to maintain and create partnerships that will strengthen our educational program, thereby making St. Thomas a primary school choice for families in the community and touching the lives of more who in turn will positively impact the fabric of society.
This appeal is made on behalf of the St. Thomas families who are dealing with delicate financial situations due to a family illness, a job layoff, and/or other challenges. Without the help of the Heritage Scholarship Fund, they would not be able to meet their tuition responsibilities. If you are interested in sponsoring a student, we ask that you please contact Vanessa Rivera, our Director of Advancement to discuss the different options.
